SEBASTIAN Walcott delivered a grand slam to headline a four-RBI performance as the Surprise Saguaros extended their winning streak to five games in the 2026 Arizona Fall League (AFL), with the Bahamian prospect continuing to build momentum ahead of the 2027 baseball season.
The Texas Rangers’ top prospect, ranked eighth on Major League Baseball’s Top 100 Prospects list, went 2-for-5 with four runs batted in and two runs scored in Friday’s 12-5 victory over the Mesa Solar Sox at Surprise Stadium in Arizona. His first home run of the fall came during a nine-run opening inning that put the Saguaros firmly in control.
Walcott, 20, cleared the bases with a towering shot to left field in his second plate appearance of the first inning.
Facing a 90.1 miles per hour sinker with five runs already on the board, he connected for a 397-foot grand slam with an exit velocity of 98 miles per hour and a launch angle of 25 degrees, stretching the lead to 9-1. The infielder had opened the inning with a single, a stolen base and a run scored before returning to the plate to deliver the decisive blow. The Saguaros added two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to complete the scoring in a game in which Walcott continued to contribute beyond his power at the plate. He grounded out in the third, reached on a fielding error in the fourth, then drew a walk and stole another base in the sixth before striking out in the seventh. He started at shortstop and batted second.
Walcott’s approach remains centred on completing the fall campaign in good condition after a season that tested his resilience. Having missed the first half of the regular season while recovering from offseason right elbow surgery, the 20-year-old is looking to finish the year healthy while continuing to build towards the next stage of his professional career.
He entered Monday’s game against the Solar Sox with a .292 batting average, a .345 on base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage through six games. He had recorded one home run, nine RBIs and seven runs scored at that stage, with Friday’s performance adding another significant contribution to his fall numbers.
The Saguaros followed their fifth consecutive victory with another win on Saturday and were scheduled to play again before press time. They stood at 8-3, tied for first place in the AFL standings, while seeking to defend the championship they won last season. Their next scheduled opponent was the Glendale Desert Dogs, with first pitch set for 4:30pm at Surprise Stadium. The 2026 league season runs through November 14.
Walcott’s fall assignment comes after a year of considerable movement through the Rangers’ farm system. He began the season recovering from surgery before returning to action and working his way from Double-A to Triple-A.
His strongest stretch came with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, where he hit .372 with a .426 on base percentage and a .674 slugging percentage in September, recording four home runs and 16 hits. That surge earned him a promotion to the Round Rock Express in Triple-A, where he appeared in two games and collected two hits in eight at-bats.
Across three teams during the 2026 season, the six foot four inch, 190lb infielder posted a .325 batting average, .401 on base percentage and .590 slugging percentage, with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs, 48 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.
The AFL provides a further test for players considered among the leading prospects in professional baseball, bringing together talent from across the minor leagues for an autumn competition in Arizona.
Walcott is participating for the second consecutive year, another opportunity to measure his progress against highly regarded prospects from other organisations.
After missing months of the regular season following surgery and still earning a late season promotion, the Bahamian has carried that progress into the fall.
His grand slam and growing contribution to a first place Saguaros team give him another strong platform as he works towards the next stage of his professional career.
