Lahore traffic police will register first information reports (FIRs) against drivers for overspeeding as part of new road safety measures aimed at preventing accidents and improving compliance with traffic laws.
The measures are being introduced under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “Safe Punjab, Safe Roads,” according to details shared about a meeting between Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore and transporters on road safety and smog.
Under the proposed measures, drivers will also be required to obtain fitness certificates, similar to the fitness requirements imposed on vehicles.
Mobile medical camps will be established to conduct medical and psychological examinations of drivers. These checks will cover eyesight, color blindness, overall medical fitness and psychological health.
The traffic police have also directed transporters to provide complete records of their drivers as part of efforts to improve road safety and accountability. The measures aim to reduce road accidents by ensuring that drivers meet the required medical and psychological standards. Authorities also discussed road safety and smog-related concerns during the meeting with transporters.
