Greek Cypriot-Australian Drew Pavlou says he was accused of “white colonialism” simply for being a white man at a Palestine rally in New York, despite his own family roots in Cyprus.
Pavlou, who has been covered by Greek City Times for his activism, posted video of the exchange on 10 October. In the clip, a man at a stall accuses him of “white colonialism” for being present as a white person. Pavlou identifies himself as Greek and asks what Greeks have done to him. The man replies that he is a colonialist and tells him to stop harassing people.

Pavlou captioned the video sarcastically: “Apparently I carried out ‘white colonialism’ today by walking through Washington Square in NYC as a white bloke during a Palestine rally. I want to apologise to all POC for the crime of existing.”
Pavlou, born to a Greek Cypriot family from the Larnaca district, is known for his criticism of the Chinese Communist Party and recent investigations into Australian government programs. He has previously been the subject of multiple Greek City Times reports on his activism and public profile.
