IMPHAL, Oct 13 : The Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) celebrated its 28th foundation at its head office at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai today.
The function began with the unfurling of the student body’s flag and releasing of balloons marked with the word ‘MSF’.
Speaking on the occasion, MSF president Hijam Roshan said that the MSF has been working relentlessly for the development of Manipuri language.
Manipur is an official language and it is listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
However, Manipuri language is not given any place in multiple choice question sections of recruitment exams conducted by different departments of the State Government, he said.
Asserting that language and culture are two core elements of a Nation’s identity, Roshan said that Manipuri language is often left out when teachers are recruited for primary and secondary levels.
Saying that the Manipuri language which has already been declared as an official language should be given ample room for growth, the MSF president urged the State Government to take up necessary steps for effective implementation of the Manipuri Official Language Act 1979.
Earlier, the Language Department translated several subjects into Manipuri but the Government has abandoned the same initiative, he said.
Pointing that Manipuri language is the lingua franca of all the communities living in Manipur, he urged the Government to take up sincere steps for development of Manipuri language.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Soraisam Memcha said that the MSF has been taking key roles in several key issues of the State. AMUCO president S Sanjoy said that the MSF has been taking pivotal roles towards bringing a new and vibrant education system in the State. He said that no Nation can develop or progress without quality education.
Students should focus on education. At the same time, they must also harbour a strong sense of nationalism, Sanjoy said.
He appealed to the student community to work collectively in order to protect Manipur and ensure its economic growth.
Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) Secretary Khundrakpam Ashnikumar said that the Government has been working to bring about a better education system with the introduction of NEP 2020.
He advised students to understand the changes and study hard. COHSEM former chairman Dr Lamabam Mahendra, Manipur Millennium Foundation administrator Moirangthem Binod, All Manipur Bus Association secretary general Dhanabir Sharma and RB Academy, Lamsang chairman Kh Ratankumar too attended the function. The gathering observed a two-minute silence in memory of the expired office bearers of MSF.
A blood donation camp was also organised in commemoration of the MSF foundation day.
