The Chicago Bears delivered a statement victory Thursday night, defeating the New England Patriots 30-24 at Soldier Field. Behind a big performance from quarterback Caleb Williams and a game-changing touchdown from rookie receiver Luther Burden III, Chicago held off a late New England push to secure its fifth win of the season.
The Bears improved to 5-2, while the Patriots fell to 4-3 after seeing their three-game winning streak come to an end. Despite a strong offensive showing from Drake Maye, New England could not complete the comeback in a competitive Thursday Night Football matchup.
Williams and Burden Lead Chicago’s Offense
Williams was sharp throughout the night, completing 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. He consistently found opportunities against the Patriots’ defense, helping Chicago build an early advantage and respond whenever New England threatened to take control.
Burden was one of the biggest difference makers, finishing with four receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. His explosive playmaking provided Chicago with a major downfield threat and helped the Bears maintain momentum during key stretches.
Running back D’Andre Swift also contributed, scoring on a four yard touchdown run as Chicago established an early lead. Kicker Cairo Santos added three field goals, including a career-best 58-yarder late in the game that proved important as the Patriots continued to apply pressure.
The Bears entered halftime with a 20-14 advantage after a wild final play in which Maye found running back Rhamondre Stevenson for a 48 yard touchdown with just one second remaining.
Maye Keeps New England in the Fight
Maye put together an impressive performance of his own, throwing for 321 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score. Stevenson was a reliable target, recording 93 receiving yards and a touchdown.
New England continued battling in the second half, but Chicago did enough to protect its lead. The Patriots managed a late 47 yard field goal from Andy Borregales, but the Bears recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.
Bears Gain Momentum
The win gives Chicago another important result as it looks to remain competitive in the NFC North. Williams’ production and Burden’s breakout performance offered reasons for optimism, while the defense made enough plays late to preserve the victory.
For New England, the loss is a setback after three straight wins. Maye showed he could move the offense against a capable opponent, but the Patriots will need stronger defensive stops in close games to get back on track.
