JUBA – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has graduated about 500 personnel in Paloch, Upper Nile State, to strengthen security around oilfields and protect civilians, the Office of the Commissioner of Melut County said.
The graduation ceremony on Sunday was attended by Acting Commissioner Adwai Akiech Yuot and led by Brigadier General Waal Deng Mading, the security commander at the Paloch oilfield.
The graduates were drawn from various counties across Upper Nile State. The ceremony marked the seventh NSS graduating batch and the second to graduate at the county level in Melut, the commissioner’s office said.
Security officials urged the graduates to maintain discipline, respect civilians and protect private property, stressing the need to build trust between security forces and local communities.
Akiech said the graduation came as South Sudan prepares for planned elections, adding that the newly graduated personnel could help secure the electoral process and maintain a safe environment in the county.
He urged the graduates to exercise restraint and coordinate with other security agencies to strengthen security and protect civilians.
