Addis Ababa, October 23, 2026 (FMC) — The caretaker administration in Ethiopia’s Tigray region is working in coordination with the federal government and local communities to restore disrupted public services, reinforce peace and security, and revive essential administrative and economic activities, Dr. Tewodros Aregay, Head of Economic Affairs and Reconstruction of the regional caretaker administration, has said.
Dr. Tewodros said the administration had been undertaking stabilization efforts since beginning its work, while coordinating with the federal government and the public to resume services interrupted across the region.
He said the administration was engaging communities to sustain peace and security, with preparations underway to restore teaching and learning services. Various activities are also being carried out jointly with the federal government and residents to address the region’s service gaps and support recovery.
Some services, including commercial activities, have already begun resuming, he noted, while efforts continue to restore other services and administrative functions.
Describing the public as peace-seeking despite the severe suffering endured by communities, Tewodros said residents were cooperating with the caretaker administration and contributing to efforts to address existing challenges.
He further disclosed that administrative service offices had been deliberately destroyed, creating additional obstacles to restoring public services. Nevertheless, efforts are underway to repair damaged facilities while working to ensure that services can be delivered alongside the repair process.
The ongoing work highlights the caretaker administration’s efforts, in cooperation with the federal government and communities, to restore essential services, rebuild administrative capacity and support a return to normal life across the Tigray region after the disruption and destruction associated with the illegal TPLF group’s period of conflict.
