A Kenyan woman's dream of studying in Canada nearly collapsed under the weight of four visa refusals before a change in strategy finally turned her fortunes around.

Foi Wambui Kimani, who shared her story publicly, revealed that her early applications leaned heavily on support from a close family member.
Mistakes in Rejected Applications
When those failed, she sought professional help, first from an immigration lawyer based in Kenya and then from another based in Canada.
Even with legal representation on two continents, the outcome was the same.
"We are not satisfied you will go back to your country," read the rejection notices each time, words she described as heartbreaking to receive after so much effort and expense.
Rather than submitting yet another application without changing her approach, Wambui paused to examine exactly what the visa officers had flagged.
The problem, she realised, was not simply a lack of documents but a failure to demonstrate credible ties to Kenya that would compel her to return after her studies.
Why 5th Application Was Different
Her fifth application addressed this directly. She assembled an employment letter, recent payslips, a car logbook, a title deed, bank statements and a carefully written statement of purpose.
Her close family contact's supporting documents were also included, this time presented in a way that aligned with her own declared circumstances.
The approval came as a shock. Her first instinct was disbelief, and she recalled asking whether her name was actually on the approval.
Wambui says she did not fully accept the outcome until she held her stamped passport in her hands.
Message for Other Applicants
Her advice to others navigating the Canadian visa process is clear: repeated applications without understanding the root cause of a refusal are unlikely to succeed.
Volume of documents alone does not satisfy visa officers. What matters is whether those documents tell a coherent, believable story that matches the applicant's actual situation.
She was also careful to caution that her outcome should not be taken as a template. Every applicant's circumstances are unique, and what worked for her fifth submission reflects her specific profile rather than a universal formula.
Her journey, spanning multiple attempts and years of setbacks, stands as a reminder that persistence only pays when paired with honest reflection and a willingness to change course.
