Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the second phase of the government’s livestock distribution program, under which thousands more rural women will receive free cows and buffaloes.
The initiative aims to help women become financially independent while reducing poverty and increasing milk production in rural areas.
The chief minister has directed the Livestock and Dairy Development Department to finalize preparations for the second phase.
Under the first phase, the Punjab government launched a Rs. 2 billion program to provide free livestock to 11,000 deserving women across 12 districts of South Punjab, with an initial target of distributing 4,870 animals.
Priority was given to widows and divorced women to help them earn a steady income and support their families through livestock farming.
The government now plans to extend the program to thousands more women, with the relevant department instructed to complete the necessary arrangements.
