Sean Ono Lennon clarified that he and his brother, Julian Lennon, received an equal amount from their father’s estate after rumors the bulk of the inheritance went to him.
“One guy abandoned by his famous Dad, the other embraced and closely attended to by the same Dad,” a social media user on X claimed in a post on Sunday, in response to Sean’s post featuring the brothers.
“One guy inherited most of the estate, the other largely cut out and forced to engaged in decadeslong litigation in pursuit of a comparatively small share of it.”
The user called the alleged arrangement “unbearably painful and enraging” for one brother and “surely pretty darn awkward” for the other.
Sean took to the comments thread to refute the allegation, writing, “Julian and I inherited the same amount from our dad. Our trusts were equal.”
In fact, Sean noted, Julian’s “was slightly more, but negligibly so.”
The Beatles superstar, who famously died in 1980 at the age of 40 after being shot by Mark David Chapman — had an estimated net worth $200 million at the time of his death.
Sean, whose mother is John’s second wife, Yoko Ono, and Julian, who was born to the singer and his first wife, Cynthia Powell, in 1963, apparently share a close relationship — despite rumors of a feud between the brothers.
Sean — who welcomed his first child, and the late John’s first grandchild, with partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl last month — took to X on Sunday to gush over their bond with a photo of the brothers taking in scenery at a lake after his 51st birthday.
“Had a great bday with my brother…” he captioned the upload, tagging Julian.
Julian, meanwhile, took to X on his younger brother’s birthday with side-by-side, black-and-white photos of Sean and John.
“‘Happy Birthday…’ Only Love ❤️🙏🏼😘,” he captioned the upload.
Julian has spoken out on their relationship before — in a 2025 interview with the Guardian, the singer said he’s “thankful” he and Sean “get on like a house on fire,” adding that they’re “best buddies.”
Sean took to Instagram Stories later that year to push back on continued rumors about their relationship.
He re-shared a black-and-white photo of the brothers at the 1986 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Elvis Presley, writing atop the throwback image, “Here, we do not accept comparisons and erroneous creations of fights about two people that John Lennon loved the most: his children.”
