A promising new chapter in Kai Trump's golfing career has been interrupted by another injury setback, forcing the University of Miami freshman to undergo surgery just weeks after beginning collegiate competition.
The 19-year-old confirmed the procedure on Wednesday, October 14, sharing a photograph from New York's Hospital for Special Surgery showing her recovering in bed with her injured arm bandaged and supported by a sling.

Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, had been preparing for her first season with the Miami Hurricanes women's golf team when she suffered a wrist injury during her opening tournament in September.
Although she initially hoped to manage the problem without surgery, further discussions with her medical team and family eventually convinced her that an operation was the appropriate decision.
Why surgery became necessary
Trump addressed the setback in a lengthy Instagram message, acknowledging her disappointment while explaining why she had chosen to prioritize her long-term health.
"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love," she wrote.
The freshman admitted that the procedure had changed her immediate plans, but insisted she was determined to remain positive throughout rehabilitation.
"It's certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I'm choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."
Her announcement followed an appearance at a three-round tournament in Muncie, Indiana, where she competed despite the wrist problems that had affected her opening weeks.
Miami freshman faces frustrating injury setback
The latest operation comes less than a year after Trump underwent surgery on her left wrist in January to address damage involving important stabilizing structures.
She previously explained that the earlier procedure involved the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon and triangular fibrocartilage complex, both of which contribute to wrist stability.
"Recovery will take time, but I'm incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow," she wrote.
"Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn't be more grateful."
Kai sends emotional message to Miami teammates
Despite the disappointment, Trump emphasized her appreciation for the support she has received from Miami's coaching staff, teammates, family and medical professionals.
She specifically thanked Dr. Carlson and the team at the Hospital for Special Surgery for their care throughout the process.
The teenager also made clear that returning to competitive golf remains her priority, even if rehabilitation temporarily keeps her away from the Hurricanes' lineup.
"For now, it's all about healing, and trusting the process," Trump wrote. "I can't wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I'll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"
Her immediate focus now turns toward recovery, with Miami awaiting further clarity on when its freshman golfer might be ready to resume competition.
