PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has offered support to two journalists injured in a crash in Ipoh, with one still under hospital observation after their car overturned on the way to a reporting assignment in Bagan Datuk.
Bernama journalist Nur Afiradina Arshad, 34, and New Straits Times reporter Zahratulhayat Mat Arif, 37, were travelling from Ipoh when a lorry hit their Perodua Bezza from behind at a traffic light along Jalan Menglembu at about 6am today.
Anwar said he had instructed his officers to arrange immediate assistance for the journalists.
In a Facebook post, he also wished both women a full recovery and expressed concern for their families.
The collision sent the car spinning several times before it overturned. The lorry skidded into bushes on the opposite side of the road.
Zahratulhayat said Nur Afiradina, who was driving, managed to get out of the vehicle. She was trapped in the front passenger seat until members of the public and police personnel came to her aid.
Both were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.
Zahratulhayat was discharged after receiving outpatient treatment for cuts to both hands and bruising and swelling on her right cheek.
Nur Afiradina remained under observation in the hospital’s yellow zone after vomiting and sustaining an injury to her right arm.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed the accident, saying investigations were ongoing.
The journalists had been heading to cover the opening of the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge Run at the Bagan Datuk Night Market site, scheduled for 8.30am.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister and Bagan Datuk MP, said in a separate Facebook post that he was saddened by the news.
Zahid, who attended the event, said he had been informed that both journalists were receiving treatment and prayed for their recovery. – October 25, 2026
