The driver of a Porsche Cayenne seen in viral videos driving recklessly has been jailed five days, fined RM10,000, and banned from driving for five years.
PETALING JAYA: The driver of a Porsche Cayenne who was filmed allegedly driving dangerously and confronting another motorist has been sentenced to five days in jail, fined RM10,000 and disqualified from driving for five years.
Woo Hong Jiang, 56, an online trader, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of reckless and dangerous driving that endangered himself and other road users, NST reports.
The offence was reportedly committed at about 2.14pm on Oct 18 along the Puchong Highway bypass towards Bukit Jalil, Serdang.
Woo was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, which provides for a maximum five-year jail term and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 upon conviction.
Magistrate Nur Natasya Mohtaruddin ordered Woo to begin serving his jail sentence immediately. He will also face an additional six months in prison if he fails to settle the fine.
The court further ordered that the conviction be endorsed on his driving licence and disqualified him from driving for five years.
Woo was brought before the court after completing a two-day remand following his arrest.
Deputy public prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, citing dashcam recordings which allegedly showed Woo driving in a dangerous manner.
She said the footage showed behaviour that could have endangered other motorists and potentially resulted in a collision, despite no accident or property damage being reported.
Adriana also asked the court to impose a substantial fine and a jail term above the minimum prescribed penalty to deter similar offences.
She further requested that the conviction be endorsed on Woo’s driving licence and that he be barred from driving for five years.
Woo, who was not represented by a lawyer, appealed to the court for leniency.
Following the proceedings, he was escorted from the courtroom and taken to prison.
Federal Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali later confirmed that Woo had paid the RM10,000 fine.
He said Woo was subsequently taken to Kajang Prison to serve his sentence.
Hasbullah also urged motorists to remain patient and exercise restraint while driving, warning against reckless or aggressive behaviour that could put other road users at risk.
He reminded motorists to observe traffic regulations and avoid provoking other drivers, as such conduct could result in serious accidents and legal consequences.
The case came to light after several videos showing the Porsche Cayenne allegedly being driven recklessly were circulated on Facebook.
