The Carolina Hurricanes rolled into town on a mission, and not just in regard to their Tuesday night game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Before the Canes beat the Canucks 6-3 at Rogers Arena, they went out for a nice dinner.
Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook, a self-proclaimed “foodie,” has launched a new TikTok account dedicated to culinary delights on the road.
“For those of you that don’t know, I’m a huge foodie,” Martinook said on his @mealswithmarty48 account. “One of the perks of playing in the NHL is you get to travel to all the major cities in the U.S. and Canada, and we get to try new restaurants and some of our favourite restaurants.”
The Stanley Cup champs have good taste, as six Hurricanes players ventured outside of downtown for dinner on Monday night, and ended up at Savio Volpe in East Vancouver.
Sebastian Aho, Sean Walker, and Eric Robinson talked up the elk tartare, while Seth Jarvis said he enjoyed the burrata. Shayne Gostisbehere shouted out the ribeye, while Martinook said the campanelle was his favourite.
The popular Italian eatery, which opened at 615 Kingsway in 2015, was already well-known to Martinook.
“A favourite of mine in Vancouver,” Martinook said, before scoring the restaurant 10 on service and 9 on food. “The service, impeccable. And it has been every time I’ve been here… This was my fourth time here, and I’ll be back again.”

Martinook, 34, is in his 13th NHL season, and his ninth with the Hurricanes. Prior to being drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes, the Brandon, Man., native played two years of junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants.
Savio Volpe wasn’t the only Vancouver restaurant that Martinook hit up while Carolina was in town, as he also vlogged his lunch experience at Homer Street Cafe in Yaletown.
“A nice lunch,” he said, noting that his favourite dish was the albacore tuna.
