Italian$$
A vibrant, welcoming local fave from a chef with pedigree.
Bold moves and bold flavours have underpinned chef Adam D’Sylva’s celebrated career, especially at Coda and Tonka. Decca may be his most daring venture yet: a classy, 80-seat bistro in the huge YarraBend housing estate at the old Amcor paper mill site. Inside, ruffled half curtains soften the view, turning attention inwards to the polished mix of warm wood, muted greys, marble and brass accents.
The menu is mainly Italian, with nods to India, wider Asia and Europe. Diced yellowfin tuna zings with citrusy ponzu sauce, pomegranate seeds and crunchy pappadums. Short twists of house-made casareccia pasta trap tender, slow-cooked ossobuco ragu in their scroll-like folds.
A piquant yellow duck curry falls off the bone, and a classic apple tarte tatin is crisp, flaky, caramelised and slightly charred. Friendly staff and a welcoming vibe make Decca an inner north-east drawcard.
Good to know: There’s free two-hour parking underneath.
