A special report from Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi highlights the heightened tension following the detention of two opposition parliamentarians, Imran Masood of the Congress and Mohibullah Nadvi of the Samajwadi Party. The leaders were detained by Delhi Police while attempting to visit students on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the restoration of the student union elections, which have remained suspended since 2006. Heavy barricading and deployment of paramilitary forces, including the ITBP and RAF, were observed near gate number seven. Protesting students, including members of the All India Students Association, assert that student representation is their fundamental right and insist on a fixed election timeframe rather than a drafting committee.
