The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has restricted three Panamanian-flagged vessels on its system that are included on a U.S. sanctions list and has begun the process of cancelling their registrations.
The measures were taken in accordance with Executive Decree No. 512 of October 28, 2024.
The move follows the publication of the latest list by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on October 8, 2026.
The authority confirmed Friday that the three Panamanian-flagged vessels listed by OFAC were restricted in the AMP system, and their cancellation process has begun.
In a statement, the AMP also clarified that none of the vessels included in the sanctions list published by the United Kingdom against Russia’s so-called shadow fleet are currently registered in the Panama Ship Registry.
In addition, AMP specified that six vessels appearing on UK’s sanctions list had already been removed from the Panamanian Ship Registry before the publication of the sanctions, dated October 8, 2026.
The AMP explained that some vessel-tracking and monitoring companies may experience delays in updating the registration status of the vessels.
Given this situation, AMP indicated that, through the Panama Ship Registry, they maintain constant monitoring of their fleet and carry out the necessary verifications.
The AMP also condemned illicit and criminal activities that threaten human life and international security.
It reiterated its commitment to fulfilling international obligations and implementing measures against those who pose a threat to regional stability, peace and international security, as well as to the prestige and integrity of the Panamanian Merchant Marine.
