French cloud firm OVHcloud will launch its first AI model in early 2027. CEO Octave Klaba also said about half of the company's connected cloud capacity is still free for new customers. He shared the news with Reuters on October 20, 2026.
Free Capacity Could Give OVHcloud an Edge
OVHcloud has 250 megawatts (MW) of connected capacity. Of that, 140 MW is in use. The other 110 MW is open for new business.
This matters as demand for AI computing grows across Europe. It can take on new customers without building new data centers first. Rivals that are short on capacity may need to spend more money to keep up.

AI Model and Work Tool in the Pipeline
The new model will use a mixture-of-experts design. In this setup, different tasks go to smaller, specialized models. One large model does not handle every request.
The French firm has already begun work on the model. It is using Jupiter, a supercomputer that Klaba calls the fastest in Europe. The move could make the company a rival to French AI firm Mistral AI. Before the model arrives, the company plans a pilot of OVHai Workspace. This work tool will use the company's own data. It is built for office tasks such as email.
Klaba also had sharp words for EU-backed computing plans. He said they push each country to build its own data centers. In his view, this could leave Europe with split-up systems and too few customers.
He also doubted that a planned €200 million public pledge to buy AI services over five years would draw enough private money. That money is needed for Europe's planned AI gigafactories.
OVHcloud has spare capacity, a model on the way, and a new work tool in testing. Together, these give it a solid base to grow as more European firms turn to AI.
