Authorities confirmed six people were arrested in connection with the theft. The artworks, Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano and Young Woman at the Well, were taken from the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice, during the theft last month, before their recovery by police.

The theft involved four paintings, although two were abandoned as the suspects fled. According to authorities, the operation lasted less than three minutes, with thieves entering through a fence and window. Cagnes-sur-Mer Mayor Bryan Masson praised investigators for recovering the missing artworks. The incident has renewed discussions about improving security and funding for museums and cultural institutions across the country.
