Currently wrestling as Mistico in AEW and CMLL, the luchador was once known as Sin Cara in WWE. However, throughout Sin Cara’s existence in WWE, the masked wrestler gimmick was portrayed by several performers.
Recently, PWInsider reported that early pitches had been made to revive the Sin Cara character, although this time with a different wrestler taking on the role. Now absent from in-ring action for several months, former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre reacted to the news on social media and teased his comeback. McIntyre posted a video as a response to the post, where he was seen pulling off some high-flying action, with a caption saying, “I’m ready.”
The gimmick was originally portrayed by Místico, but was later taken over by Hunico after Místico was suspended for 30 days in 2011. Following Místico’s return, it eventually led to a Sin Cara Negro vs. Sin Cara Azul feud that culminated in a Mask vs. Mask match at the Oct. 16, 2011 WWE SmackDown taping in Mexico City.

Following Mistico’s release in 2014, Hunico became the new Sin Cara, and the character remained a part of WWE until 2019. While McIntyre teased returning as the new masked Sin Cara, it should also be noted that McIntyre is not a stranger to the high-flying Lucha Libre style. “The Scottish Warrior” wrestled a couple of matches in AAA over a decade ago, in 2014 and 2015.
