Mastercard introduced a risk intelligence solution designed to enable more secure stablecoin payments, the company said in a Monday (Oct. 19) press release.
The new Stablecoin Security solution combines payment and blockchain intelligence to help financial institutions assess risk from payment initiation through on-chain movement. It helps these institutions identify fraud, scams, sanctions and other financial crime risk indicators, according to the release.
Stablecoin Security is delivered through a platform-agnostic API; analyzes transaction context, source of funds, exposure to restricted parties, scam indicators and other signals; generates intelligence across the fiat and stablecoin lifecycle; and can be integrated into existing fraud, compliance and case management workflows, the release said.

“Stablecoins are creating new possibilities for value exchange, but financial institutions need the right intelligence and controls to participate with confidence,” Ann Johnson, executive vice president, security solutions at Mastercard, said in the release. “By bringing payment and blockchain insights together, Stablecoin Security extends Mastercard’s fraud and risk capabilities to digital asset payments, giving institutions a clearer view of risk to make more informed decisions and build greater trust.”
Mastercard’s initial partners in Stablecoin Security are Borderless.xyz and Keyrails. The company will continue to expand the solution’s reach and adoption next year, including through recently acquired BVNK, according to the release.
Mastercard is launching Stablecoin Security first in North America, and the company expects to extend it worldwide in 2027, per the release.
The announcement came days after Mastercard and BVNK launched a platform that brings together fiat and stablecoin capabilities to make it easier to move and manage any form of money. The new Mastercard Global Money Platform is available through BVNK.
Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach told Bloomberg TV Oct. 9 that cross-border payments are proving to be the strongest use case for stablecoins, as they provide an alternative to traditional methods that take days and have unclear fees.
Mastercard Chief Financial Officer Ling Hai said in September that since its August acquisition of BVNK, Mastercard has been embedding stablecoin orchestration and white-label wallet capabilities into its payments stack. Hai said Mastercard sees stablecoin and digital asset infrastructure as an opportunity for growth.
