Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sworn in six new permanent secretaries, bringing the total number appointed under his administration to 135.
The newly appointed officials are Dr Olawale Adegbite, Mrs Folashade Thomas-Orogan, Mr Adebayo Haroun, Mrs Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, Mr Olatunbuson Ogunbanwo and Mrs Toyin Adekoya.
Sanwo-Olu also inaugurated the chairmen and members of the Lagos State Audit Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission during the ceremony.
The Audit Service Commission members are Mrs Arinola Dawodu, who will serve as chairman, Hon. Bukola Ogunnowo, Ms Omotayo Gbajabiamila-Olamona, Hon. Bowale Shosimi and Hon. Sunday Kappo.
The Local Government Service Commission members are Hon. Akeem Bamgbola, as chairman, Hon. Adeyinka Durosinmi, Mr Ahmed Seriki, Mr Shamsideen Olaleye and Hon. Folashade Olabanji-Oba.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House in Ikeja on Monday, saw the governor charge the appointees to begin work immediately and prioritise efficient service delivery to Lagos residents.
He urged them to maintain high professional standards and ensure that government policies and programmes were implemented effectively.
“These appointments recognise your experience and service, but they also place greater expectations on you. At this level of public service, the task is not simply to occupy an office or oversee an institution. It is to make that institution work effectively and ensure that its contribution to the development of Lagos State is clear and measurable,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He noted that the vision of a Greater Lagos depended on a public service capable of turning government policies into tangible results that residents could experience in their daily lives.
“Our vision of a Greater Lagos requires a public service that can translate policies into results. The people of Lagos must be able to see the difference that effective governance makes in their daily lives,” he added.
The governor also called on the new appointees to demonstrate integrity, fairness and accountability in carrying out their responsibilities. He urged them to remain accessible, encourage innovation, promote teamwork and address administrative challenges professionally.
Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, described the appointments as an important step towards improving governance and strengthening service delivery across the state.
Agoro expressed confidence in the appointees’ readiness to take on their responsibilities, saying they were enthusiastic about contributing to the development of the public service and Lagos State.
“These appointments underscore the commitment of the present administration to meritocracy, professionalism, accountability and transparency. I am confident that the wealth of knowledge and expertise you will bring on board will continue to strengthen our institutional capacity,” he said.
In their words of assurance, the appointees thanked Sanwo-Olu for the confidence placed in them and pledged to discharge their duties effectively in pursuit of the state’s development goals.
