The day is getting closer: Marugame Udon recently put up signs for its first location in Richmond, and with that, we’ve also gotten an updated opening date.
The restaurant chain, which is also known as “Japan’s favourite handmade udon house,” opened its first location in Vancouver back in 2024, drawing long lines of hungry fans looking to try the popular noodle shop. This Richmond location will be its second outpost in Metro Vancouver. The brand goes much further back, having been founded in Japan in the year 2000.
For those not in the know, Marugame Udon is known for its theatre-like atmosphere and noodles with a signature “Marugame texture” (thick, chewy, and slightly firmer than other udon noodles you might find). These noodles are also hand-cut and boiled on the spot.
On the menu, you can find varieties like Kake Udon (served with umami fish dashi soup), Nikutama Udon (made with sweet-flavoured beef, onsen egg, and BK sauce), and Chicken Katsu Curry Udon.

The brand shared a video of the team putting up the sign for the Richmond location along with the caption, “This is your sign… that our opening at Richmond Centre Park Plaza is just around the corner.”
While the team couldn’t provide an exact opening date for the location (“we all know how these things typically go, so we cannot give a solidified opening date,” wrote the noodle restaurant on Instagram), it did share that in the “absolute best case scenario,” patrons will be able to dine there as early as December.

Marugame Udon is just one of the many new restaurants to open in CF Richmond Centre’s new outdoor retail development called “Park Plaza.” The new section of the mall is intended to bring a brand-new high-density, mixed-use residential and commercial district to the property and will feature other businesses like Big Way Hot Pot, Breka, and a new Fresh St. Market just steps away from the Plaza (which will also have a Peak Donuts counter).
