Two Ethereum Foundation-linked wallets transferred 4,393 ETH worth approximately USD 11.13 million to Kraken on October 12. The movement raised questions about possible selling activity as Ethereum traded near USD 2,555. However, the transactions alone do not confirm that anyone sold the deposited tokens.
Blockchain analyst EmberCN reported the transfers on X. The analyst traced the wallets to an address that distributed 59,751 ETH approximately a decade ago. Since then, the tracked recipient has transferred 49,751 ETH to Kraken, with historical prices averaging around USD 658 per token.
Neither the Ethereum Foundation nor Kraken has publicly confirmed a sale linked to the latest deposits. The available information establishes the movement of cryptocurrency between wallets and an exchange. It does not establish whether the recipient sold the assets or retained them on the platform.
Historical Wallet Activity Traces Back a Decade
EmberCN's analysis connected the latest transfers to a wallet that received 59,751 ETH around ten years ago. The recipient subsequently moved portions of that allocation to Kraken over an extended period.
According to the analyst, those historical transfers totaled 49,751 ETH. That amount represents approximately 83% of the original allocation. The reported average price of USD 658 reflects the estimated market value during the transfers, rather than independently verified sale proceeds.
The distinction between a transfer and a sale remains important. Depositing ETH into an exchange can precede a sale, but the transaction does not prove that an exchange executed a trade. Kraken has not disclosed whether the latest deposits resulted in cash conversions, cryptocurrency exchanges or continued custody.
The wallet history also does not establish that the Ethereum Foundation maintained ownership or control over the recipient addresses throughout the decade. A historical connection does not confirm who authorized the October 12 transactions.
Did the latest transfers signal a new Ethereum Foundation treasury sale, or did the wallets move assets for another purpose? The available information does not answer that question.
Ethereum Foundation Policy Allows Planned ETH Sales
The Ethereum Foundation published a treasury management policy in June 2025. The framework explains how the organization manages cryptocurrency reserves, operating costs, and long-term funding needs.
Under the policy, the foundation evaluates its spending requirements against available treasury assets. It establishes an annual operating expenditure target equivalent to 15% of treasury assets and a reserve buffer covering 2.5 years of expenses.
The framework also allows the foundation to convert ETH into fiat currencies through established off-ramps or use on-chain exchanges. These transactions help fund research, ecosystem grants, and other organizational activities.
However, the existence of a treasury policy does not link every historically associated wallet to the foundation's current reserves. The October 12 transfers have not been tied to an official funding announcement or a disclosed treasury sale.

Previous Treasury Transactions Involved Thousands of ETH
The foundation announced plans in April 2026 to sell 5,000 ETH through CoWSwap. It planned to use a time-weighted average price strategy, which spreads transactions over time instead of executing the entire order at once.
The organization described that transaction as part of its treasury management program. The program supports research, development, grants, and donations across the Ethereum ecosystem.
In May 2026, the foundation sold 10,000 ETH to BitMine through an over-the-counter transaction. The deal carried an average price of USD 2,292 per token and followed two earlier transactions with the same buyer.
Reported treasury records placed the combined ETH sales involving those transactions at 25,000 ETH. Those deals had separate documentation and identified counterparties.
By contrast, the October 12 wallet movements have no confirmed connection to a new over-the-counter agreement or an official treasury announcement. The available details therefore do not establish whether the latest transfers represent foundation-directed selling or activity by other wallet controllers.
Conclusion
Two Ethereum Foundation-linked wallets transferred 4,393 ETH worth approximately USD 11.13 million to Kraken on October 12. Historical records connect the wallets to an earlier allocation, while the foundation has previously conducted documented treasury sales. No public confirmation establishes that the latest deposits resulted in a sale.
