Her promotion celebration was short-lived.
US State Department press adviser, Britt McHenry, was forced to resign on Thursday after getting into a heated confrontation at the Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks game the night before, a source familiar with the situation told Page Six.
McHenry, 40, was hired as press adviser covering Europe and Africa, we’re told. Additionally, she also handled press for Kimberly Guilfoyle’s text message scandal.
An insider told us McHenry was promoted to a new role leading External Affairs & Press for under secretary Jacob Helberg’s team on Wednesday, the same day that she found herself in her own scandal — hurling a drink at a fan at the basketball game.
“She was forced to resign [over the incident],” a source said. “She was promoted and fired within 24 hours.”
A spokesperson for the Department of State responded, “We do not comment on internal personnel matters.”
McHenry’s new job and promotion came to an end when she found herself escorted out of Capital One Arena in DC on Wednesday night. A source previously told us a man in the crowd began “heckling” Bucks player Kyle Kuzma, who is engaged to model Winnie Harlow.
“They were saying he plays terribly because his girlfriend’s ugly,” our source claimed, adding that the man said other “terrible” things about Harlow.
She then urged the heckler to “ease up,” which led the alleged unruly fans to turn their attention toward her, according to the source, who claimed they “threw a drink on her.”
Video obtained by TMZ, however, shows a seemingly inebriated McHenry tossing a drink after fans chanted, “Get her out!”
They subsequently threw multiple items at her after she tossed the drink and was escorted out to a chorus of boos. McHenry exited blowing kisses to the crowd.
This isn’t the first time McHenry’s employment was cut short over behavior caught on video. In 2015, ESPN infamously suspended her after she was caught on camera berating an employee of a towing company in DC, telling the staffer they had “no education” or “skill set.”
“Do you feel good about your job? So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing? Why, ’cause I have a brain, and you don’t?” she ranted after her car had been towed. “Maybe if I was missing some teeth, they would hire me, huh? … ‘Cause I’m on television, and you’re in a f–king trailer, honey.”
McHenry did not get back to us by deadline.
