Booked hard waste collections could be returning to the City of Subiaco after the cost for its current scheduled collection service was expected to double.
City officers have recommended the change after the city received only one bid for its bulk verge hard waste collection contract.
Their report said the submission was “over twice what the city currently spends on the service” and “is not deemed value for money”.
They have recommended the city instead contract the Western Metropolitan Regional Council to provide a resident-booked Verge Valet service twice a year.
This is expected to save the city about $28,600 annually compared with its existing set-date collection contract, which ends on December 7.
The council is scheduled to consider the recommendation at its October 20 meeting.
The city currently provides residents with city-wide hard waste collections on dates which it sets.
Under the proposed Verge Valet model, residents would book a collection at a date of their choosing, up to two collections per year, with additional collections requiring payment.

The city moved away from the Verge Valet system to scheduled bi-annual collections after a council decision in November 2023.
The current contractors did not submit a bid for renewal due to capacity constraints.
City officers warned that retendering the existing service could result in higher costs and was “unlikely to receive any suitable submissions”.
They said the change in service could also address concerns about street safety and presentation during collection periods, illegal dumping and collection dates that were inconvenient for some residents.
The WMRC already provides Subiaco with a booked collection service.
The City of Subiaco’s most recent collection started on Monday, July 27.
