A tree plantation and sapling distribution drive was held in Dasar upazila of Madaripur on Thursday to protect ecological balance, expand green cover, and counter the fallout of climate change.
Organised by the Dasar upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho under the slogan "Plant trees, save the environment," diverse varieties of fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings were planted and distributed on the premises of DK Ideal Syed Atahar Ali College.
Chaired by Dasar upazila unit President and journalist Syed Rakibul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Shahriar Tuhin Mridha, the event was addressed by Dasar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanzil Parvez as the chief guest.
Commending the initiative, Tanzil Parvez noted that Bashundhara Shuvosangho has engaged in social welfare since its inception. He stated that community afforestation initiatives play a crucial role in safeguarding ecological balance and accelerating rural greening.
Syed Rakibul Islam highlighted that the drive aims to raise grassroots awareness amid the growing global climate crisis, pledging to sustain such environmental campaigns. General Secretary Shahriar Tuhin Mridha urged residents to plant at least one tree around their homesteads to contribute to ecological sustainability.
The drive was also attended by Dasar Upazila Youth Development Officer Anwarul Huda, DK Ideal Syed Atahar Ali College Acting Principal Md Masudur Rahman, Upazila Ansar Officer Md Hasibul Hasan Sharad, teacher Rafiqul Islam, and Union Parishad members Sharif Jahidur Islam, Syed Nazrul Islam, and Mamun Sardar, alongside teachers, students, and local dignitaries.
Organisers expressed optimism that the programme would bolster conservation awareness and foster a greener Dasar upazila.
