The management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has launched the 2026 SSNIT Mobile Service (SMS) Week in Techiman, in the Bono East Region.
Dr. Bernardette Hoffman, Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration, and Management, Mr. Molbila explained that the SSNIT Mobile Service Week is an annual initiative designed to bring the Trust’s services closer to members and the public.
This year’s event commenced on Monday, October 19, and is expected to conclude on Friday, October 23, 2026.
As part of the initiative, the Trust has established 68 temporary service touchpoints at designated locations across the country to expand access to SSNIT services.
The services available at these touchpoints include the registration of new members, benefits processing and status verification, the renewal of pensioner certificates, the merging of Ghana Card and SSNIT numbers, and general inquiries.
A major focus of this year’s campaign is to encourage self-employed persons—including traders, artisans, drivers, farmers, and other informal sector workers—to enrol in the Scheme, contribute regularly, and secure a reliable retirement income.
The initiative also seeks to encourage workers to adopt and actively use SSNIT’s digital platforms, including the SSNIT Mobile App, the SSNIT portal, and the Virtual Branch, to access services more conveniently.
The SMS launch featured testimonies from three beneficiaries of the SSNIT Scheme, comprising two invalidity pensioners and one survivor beneficiary, who shared their experiences and highlighted the positive impact of the Scheme on their lives.
The Trust disclosed that, as of September 2026, it had paid a total of GH¢6.71 billion in benefits. These payments cover monthly pensions, invalidity pensions, survivors’ benefits and emigration benefits.
The Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV—represented by the Chief of Kenten and Debehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oheneba Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako II—officially launched the 2026 SMS Week as the Special Guest of Honour.
He commended SSNIT Management for bringing the initiative to Techiman, noting that it would expand access to SSNIT’s services and enable more workers in the area to enroll and benefit from the Scheme.
Delivering the guest speaker’s address, the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, also praised SSNIT for leveraging digital platforms to improve service delivery.
He urged SSNIT to continue engaging members and the public to promote social security awareness and encourage more workers, particularly self-employed individuals in the informal sector, to enroll in the Scheme.
