SANAA – Yemen's Houthi movement has warned that it would launch a "swift and painful" response if the United States intervenes militarily in Yemen, signaling rising tensions amid growing concerns over a potential escalation of the conflict.
In statements carried by Houthi-affiliated media outlets, senior officials from the group said they were closely monitoring regional and international developments and were prepared to confront any foreign military action targeting Yemen.
The Iran-aligned movement warned that any direct U.S. military involvement would be met with immediate retaliation, asserting that its forces possess the capability to respond to threats and expand the scope of confrontation if necessary.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region and growing speculation over possible military measures linked to ongoing security and political developments in Yemen and the wider Middle East.
Houthi officials said their forces remain on high alert and are prepared to defend areas under their control, while reiterating their opposition to what they described as foreign interference in Yemen's affairs.
The latest threats underscore fears of further escalation in a conflict that has already triggered one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with millions of Yemenis relying on humanitarian assistance after years of war, economic deterioration, and displacement.
