Saint Lucia’s Dennery Segment sound is gaining another international spotlight, with local artiste Umpa named Billboard’s Caribbean Up-and-Comer of the Month for October 2026.
Umpa, whose real name is Brendan Jordan Charlery, is being recognised for his work in Caribbean music as he pushes to take Saint Lucia’s homegrown genre to a wider global audience.
The recognition puts a spotlight on both the artiste and Dennery Segment, the distinctly Saint Lucian sound that has been making its mark across the Caribbean and beyond.
