Nepalgunj, Oct. 13: A total of 1,000 saplings were planted in a single day at Shree Miteri Community Forest of Kohalpur Municipality-6, Banke district.
The plantation programme was organised on Sunday by the organisation “We Are One Family, Saving the Earth from Beginning to End” under the Mother’s Forest Project. The initiative aims to expand forest cover and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Hemraj Shahi of the organising organisation said the plantation had contributed to local forest conservation, with 1,000 saplings planted in a single day across approximately one hectare of previously barren land within the community forest.
Man Bahadur Giri, chief administrative officer of Kohalpur Municipality and the chief guest at the programme, inaugurated the plantation. He stressed the urgent need to protect forests and expressed concern that human activities were increasingly threatening them.
Thagga Tharu, chair of Ward No. 7, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying planting saplings on vacant land in the ward was a commendable effort. Shiva Kumar Yadav, a ranger at the Kohalpur Forest Office, said expanding and protecting forest cover was a major priority and stressed the need to organise more programmes of this kind.
Around 100 people, including members of the organising organisation, their family members and neighbours, participated in the programme.
Nabin Timalsena of the organising organisation said the Shamshergunj Sub-Division Forest Office had supplied 1,000 saplings for the plantation with support from the Kohalpur Sub-Division Forest Office.
