PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik’s hopes of winning the Denmark Open title for the second time were dashed by Indonesia's top pair Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri in the final today.
The Malaysian world No 4 duo, ranked one spot below the Indonesians, went down easily in straight games of 8-21, 11-21 in just 31 minutes s in the World Tour Super 750 final at the SJ Bank Arena in Odense.
Today's match was the fourth appearance by Aaron-Wooi Yik in a final this year, but they have yet to win any title.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, who were champions in 2023, won US$33,250 (RM135,766) as runners-up.
The Indonesian pair have now beaten Aaron-Wooi Yik three times in five encounters.
Aaron-Wooi Yik are still looking for their first World Tour title this year after also finishing as runners-up in three top-tier tournaments – the Malaysia Open, the All England, and the World Championships.
Aaron was also a runner-up at the Taipei Open when he partnered Aaron Tai as part of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s experiment to find the best combinations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Aaron-Wooi Yik had dropped to 14th place in the World Tour finals ranking after their brief separation. Only the top eight in the list qualify for the prestigious championships to be played in China in December.
However, their performance in Denmark is expected to push them up a couple of places when the revised list is published by the Badminton World Federation on Tuesday.
