Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has announced the death of her father, Mzee Mohamed Achani, who passed away at the family's rural home in Bodo Village, Ramisi Ward, Msambweni Sub-County, at the age of 74.

Governor Achani shared the news on Monday, disclosing that her father had been receiving medical attention over an extended period before his condition deteriorated. He developed complications while performing Fajr, the pre-dawn Islamic prayer, and subsequently passed on.
Mzee Achani to Be Buried at Family Home
In keeping with Islamic tradition, the governor confirmed that her father would be laid to rest on the same day at 4:00 p.m. at the family home in Bodo Village, Ramisi Ward, Msambweni Sub-County.
Announcing her father's death, Governor Achani asked for prayers and spiritual support for her family during the bereavement period.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved father, Mzee Mohamed Achani, who returned to his Creator this morning at our rural home in Bodo Village, Ramisi Ward, Msambweni Sub-County, at the age of 74. My father had been in and out of hospital for some time and developed complications while performing the Fajr prayers," she wrote.
She called on Allah to forgive her father's shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus, while also praying for strength and patience for all those who knew him.
President Ruto sends condolences
President William Ruto was among the first to publicly mourn the deceased, sending a message of condolence directed at the Kwale governor and her family.
"Sincere condolences to Governor Fatuma Achani following the passing of your dear father, Mohamed Achani. Our prayers are with you, your family and the entire county during this painful time. Rest In Peace, Mzee Achani," Ruto wrote.
Governor Achani was elected as Kwale County's first female governor in the August 2022 General Election, a milestone that drew significant attention across the country. The loss of her father comes as she continues to serve in that role.
