Ne-Yo's highly anticipated return to Nairobi has left a section of fans with more frustration than fond memories, after a viral clip from the concert showed attendees watching the Grammy-winning artist perform on a giant LED screen rather than with a direct view of the stage.

The One Night Only: Brunch Edition concert took place on 20 October at Ulinzi Sports Complex, marking the R&B star's first Nairobi appearance in 11 years.
Organisers had positioned the event as a premium experience running from 3pm to 11pm, complete with fine dining, curated décor and live entertainment.

How much did Ne-Yo tickets cost?
Ticket prices reflected the event's premium billing. Standard Gold tickets went for KSh 15,000, while VIP Platinum seats were priced at KSh 40,000. Demand appeared strong in the lead-up to the show: Platinum sold out several days before the event, and Gold was at 95% capacity by showtime.
Ne-Yo, whose full name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, delivered a set packed with fan favourites, including So Sick, Miss Independent, Closer and Because of You. For many Kenyans who grew up listening to his catalogue, the prospect of seeing him live was a significant draw.
Viral video sparks debate on concert value
However, a clip circulating online after the show told a different story for some concert-goers. The footage showed a group of attendees stationed behind the main stage area, their view of the performance limited to what was showing on a large jumbotron screen. The video carried the caption:
"KSh 15,000 to watch on the screen 😭😂" capturing the humour and irritation felt by those who found themselves in that position.
In the video itself, one attendee could be heard saying simply: "Thank you." The understated comment, clearly a polite end to a disappointing experience, resonated widely online, with many pointing out that paying KSh 15,000 to watch a screen was not meaningfully different from streaming the performance on YouTube.
Even before the event, Kenyans had raised eyebrows at the ticket prices, with jokes online suggesting that KSh 40,000 could cover rent or serve as start-up capital for a small business.
The video has reignited conversations about crowd management, stage positioning and sightlines at major Nairobi concerts targeting premium audiences.
