The Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) and the Department of Fisheries are set to come up with an action plan for the modernisation of the Kakinada Fishing Harbour and the Kumbabhishekam fish landing point, a hotspot for shark trade on the Kakinada coast in Andhra Pradesh.
Built between 1979 and 1984, the Kakinada Fishing Harbour facilitates the landing of more than 4,200 mechanised boats. Located between the Kakinada deep-sea port and a mudflat, the Kumbabhishekam fish landing point is a major trade post for mechanised boats involved in deep-sea fishing. Fishing boats venturing from the Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam coasts also land at the Kakinada Fishing Harbour for better marketing connectivity and export of marine fish.

In a review meeting with the officials concerned here on Wednesday (October 21, 2026), Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad asked the APMB and Fisheries authorities to prepare an action plan for the modernisation of these two facilities on the Kakinada coast.
The Ameenabad fishing harbour is nearing completion on the Uppada coast, about 10 kilometres away from the Kakinada Fishing Harbour.
Kakinada Port Officer K. Sridharma Sasthra and Kakinada Anchorage Port Superintending Engineer M.B. Padmashreni have been directed to extend their support for the modernisation proposals. AP Maritime Board Executive Engineer A.S.S. Prakasa Rao and Assistant Director of Fisheries G. Gopi shared their inputs on the challenges and advantages of the modernisation plan.z
