Morigaon: In a disturbing incident, a father allegedly abandoned his two-year-old son by the roadside at night in Bhogdola village under Morigaon Sadar Police Station.
According to local reports, some youths spotted the child crying and wandering in search of light at around 9 pm. When they questioned the toddler, they reportedly learned that his father had left him there.
The youths subsequently identified the child and took him to his grandfather’s house near the spot where he had allegedly been abandoned. However, the grandfather reportedly refused to keep the child.
With no other option, the youths, with the assistance of media personnel, took the child to the police station. Police took the matter seriously and accompanied the child to his father’s residence to locate him.
However, the father allegedly fled through the back door of the house after learning that the police had arrived.
The man has been identified as Moni Nath, a motorcycle mechanic.
According to the information available, Nath had married another woman around three to four months ago. He had allegedly subjected his former wife, the child’s mother, to abuse and driven her out of the house. The woman is currently living outside Assam for work.
The child’s present condition and further action in the case are not yet known.
