By Zoila Palma: President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele says that the Salvadoran army has launched a rescue mission to rescue four Salvadoran members of an international, United Nations-backed security force who are reportedly being held hostage by armed gangs in Haiti.
The four Salvadorans went missing on Sunday after jumping from a burning armored vehicle that was ambushed by armed gangs on the outskirts of Haiti’s capital while they were returning from a market to their base, according to security officials.
Bukele says that there are many messages and analysis claiming that the gangs in Haiti are not like those in El Salvador—”that they are bloodthirsty, heavily armed, and unconquerable; that all previous missions have failed; that we are walking into a trap; that we do not know what we are facing; that this will be our ruin; and that we are heading toward our own Waterloo.”
Bukele says that God will grant victory to the Salvadoran army.
“But when God grants us victory, those same people who are saying all this today will change their tune. They will claim that it was always easy, that anyone could have done it, and that the gangs in Haiti were never as dangerous as people thought.
In any case, we have never listened to them, and we are not going to start now.
Everyone who has enlisted is a believer, and we have entrusted this mission to God—whereas the gangs in Haiti are satanic, and it is common knowledge that they perform human sacrifices,” Bukele asserted.
“The Creator of the Universe is with us,” he said.
