- Olwethu Makhanya, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng have drawn attention from English Premier League clubs
- Makhanya, 22, won the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award and has been linked with Brentford and Sunderland
- Mbokazi and Mofokeng are also on the radar of top English clubs after strong performances in MLS and Belgium
Three Bafana Bafana players are drawing serious interest from English Premier League clubs, with scouts monitoring their performances across Scotland, the United States and Belgium.
Olwethu Makhanya, 22, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, 21, and Relebohile Mofokeng, 21, are each operating in leagues recognised as credible launch pads to England's top flight. Makhanya's club Rangers and Mofokeng's Royale Union Saint-Gilloise each sent six players to the Premier League this season, underlining the pedigree of those pathways.
Makhanya Leads the Charge
The Durban-born central defender has arguably made the strongest case for a Premier League switch.
Makhanya claimed the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award and has since been linked with both Brentford and Sunderland. Should he sustain his current form, a move to England, either in January or at the end of the season, would not come as a surprise.
Mbokazi and Mofokeng Also on English Clubs' Radar
Mbokazi joined Chicago Fire FC in January and has wasted little time making an impression in Major League Soccer. He was ranked fourth in the MLS Under-22 best young talent standings, with his composure, physicality and ability to build attacks from deep drawing interest from Nottingham Forest.
Mofokeng, operating as an attacking midfielder at Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, has delivered four goals and two assists in 12 appearances since arriving in August. His technical quality and creativity have attracted attention from Brighton and Chelsea, as well as clubs in France and Germany.
All three players still have ground to cover before securing a Premier League contract. However, their collective progress represents a significant moment for South African football, with the prospect of multiple Bafana Bafana players competing in the world's most-watched league within the same transfer window. A move of that magnitude would also carry implications for how South African talent is perceived in the international transfer market.
