Hundreds of grieving fans and community members gathered at Madonsi on Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil in honour of Limpopo comedian and content creator Khadziyane Ndivhuwo, popularly known as Skeem Mafenya.
The gathering took place at Madonsi Boltman B, where Mafenya was found murdered in the early hours of Saturday.
Mourners lit candles at the spot where he allegedly took his last breath. They gathered to pay tribute to his life and legacy.
The vigil brought together fans and community members who wanted to honour the young entertainer.
Three suspects arrested
Three suspects, aged between 17 and 23, have been arrested in connection with Mafenya’s murder.
The arrests followed an intelligence-driven police operation. The suspects were expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge.
The motive for the killing remains unknown.
According to the Limpopo Mirror, Collins Chabane Local Municipality mayor Shadrack Maluleke attended the court proceedings alongside executive committee members Doris Mabasa and Pertunia Mahlaule.
Maluleke said his presence was intended to show support for Mafenya’s grieving family and the community.
“While I am relieved the suspects have been apprehended, we place our confidence in South Africa’s judicial system to ensure the perpetrators are held completely accountable,” he told the publication.
Traditional leader Hosi Wisani Evans Hlungwani, popularly known as Hosi Madonsi, previously described Mafenya’s death as a devastating loss to the village.
“His untimely death has rocked the whole village. He had a bright future ahead of him, but his life was cut short at the pinnacle of his career,” he said.
The motive for the killing remains unknown as the case proceeds through the courts.
