Pupils of Perfect Nursery and Primary School in Kulambiro are set to benefit from improved sanitation and hygiene following the commissioning of a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project by the Rotary Club of Kulambiro.
The project aims to improve access to essential sanitation and hygiene facilities while promoting proper hygiene practices among learners to create a cleaner, safer and healthier school environment.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Rotary Club of Kulambiro President Eddie Rush Ntumwa said the initiative demonstrated Rotary's commitment to improving children's welfare and supporting communities through sustainable interventions.
“Through this WASH project, we want to improve sanitation and hygiene at Perfect Nursery and Primary School and ensure that learners have a cleaner and safer environment. Good hygiene practices are essential in protecting children’s health and supporting their education,” Ntumwa said.
He emphasised that access to proper sanitation facilities was an important part of creating a conducive learning environment, noting that schools needed adequate facilities to help learners maintain good hygiene and prevent sanitation-related challenges.
“Every child deserves to learn in a clean and healthy environment. We believe that improving water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in schools can make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners and the wider school community,” Ntumwa added.
The project is expected to benefit the school community by strengthening sanitation standards, encouraging responsible hygiene practices and promoting pupils' overall well-being.
The initiative also highlights the role of Rotary and other community-based organisations in partnering with educational institutions to address local challenges and improve children's welfare.
The commissioning of the WASH project marks another effort to promote better sanitation and hygiene in schools, where a healthy learning environment is essential for pupils' growth, development and academic progress.
