Vulkan 1.4.366 is out and representing the past two weeks of specification fixes, clarifications, and one new Vulkan API extension.
Beyond the minor fixes found in Vulkan 1.4.366, VK_GOOGLE_hdr_SMPTE_ST_2094_50_metadata is the new extension of this update. Google engineers have added SMPTE ST 2094-50 dynamic metadata support in the Vulkan swapchain.
The SMPTE ST 2094-50 standard is for HDR video and developed by Google, Apple, and NBC Universal. The intent with this standard is for improving the experience when mixing SDR and HDR content with brightness spikes and other inconsistencies. More details on SMPTE ST 2094-50 can be found via the effort's GitHub.
Google has been working to bring SMPTE ST 2094-50, which was only finalized in August, to Chrome and other software for improving the HDR video experience.
