With a focus on disaster preparedness, risk reduction and public awareness, a special programme was organised at West Dwarikapur Gram Panchayat under Kalyanpur RD Block to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The initiative was conducted by My Bharat Kendra, Khowai, under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the Tripura Government, in collaboration with the NGO Help to Smile.
The programme featured an awareness session by Abhijit Acharjee, Scout Master of the Kalyanpur Scouts and Guides Unit and a Master Trainer in Disaster Management. He highlighted the importance of advance preparedness for floods, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides, while educating participants on safety measures and emergency response practices.
Emphasising that effective disaster management requires both administrative action and community participation, Acharjee urged people to stay informed about early warning systems, maintain effective communication during emergencies and extend support to one another during crises. He also stressed the need to remain calm during disasters and follow the instructions of authorities and rescue teams.
Organisers said the programme aimed to build awareness and strengthen community resilience, helping create a safer and more disaster-ready society.
