Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday claimed that a political party chief was upset over being denied the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governorship and a role in the imposition of emergency, without naming anyone.
Speaking to journalists in Lahore, he alleged that the politician had relied on the establishment for decades to advance his political career, even seeking its assistance in arranging air tickets for party members.
Naqvi urged political leaders to avoid personal attacks and base their arguments on facts, while calling on them to support efforts to restore peace and combat terrorism in KP.
The remarks came days after the federal government imposed governor’s rule and an emergency in the province, citing the provincial government’s alleged disengagement from counterterrorism efforts.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly opposed the decision, accusing the Centre of reneging on its commitments despite his mediation efforts. He vowed to challenge the move through democratic and constitutional forums.
Naqvi also questioned why political leaders had remained silent over the alleged deprivation of resources in the former tribal districts, stressing that their rights should take precedence over political interests.
