Michael Olise’s rash decision to throw the ball in the face of Viking FK captain Zlatko Tripić on Tuesday evening saw Bayern Munich reduced to 10 men mere minutes after taking the 3-2 lead, something that would come back to bite the Bavarians, as the Norwegian side would find a late equalizer to deny them two points.
Olise’s sending off would have further consequences, too, as he will now miss Bayern’s huge clash with Arsenal FC, set this upcoming Wednesday. It will be an encounter of two of the betting favorites for this season’s Champions League title and the Bavarians will likely dearly miss their No. 17.
Harry Kane knows Olise will be just as pained to miss the game as Bayern will be to not have him available for the match, but thinks Olise is experienced enough to know that one needs to focus on what can be controlled. The mistake has been made, and Olise cannot take it nor the suspension back now; however, he could refocus on the games ahead to make up for it. Following Bayern’s 6-1 destruction of RB Leipzig, Kane highlighted Olise’s successful response:
“He showed on the training pitch and also in (Saturday)’s game that his reaction was at an absolutely top level,” Kane stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Of course he was disappointed after Tuesday. He wants to be at every game. And I said afterwards: He’s going to miss a great game on Wednesday, one he would have loved to play in. That’s life. His reaction today was outstanding. We’ve already talked about how good he’s been this season. And he showed that again today.”
It is sometimes easy to forget that, at 24, Michael Olise is still a young adult and has room to grow with experience. This is one of those moments of growth that will determine just how well Olise matures over the years. And, given the evidence of the last game, one can only be impressed by the results. He just needs to keep it up.
