For Reese Alston, son of streetball legend and retired Houston Rockets star Rafer Alston, little remains in his high school career except a couple of major decisions.
Alston, the senior point guard at Second Baptist School in Houston, is the No. 10 overall player in ESPN's Class of 2027 rankings and just finished participating in the USA Basketball Junior National Team October minicamp in Colorado Springs.
Alston's ability to control the flow of a game as a point guard might be the best in the country, which has been carefully nurtured by his father Rafer, who currently coaches at Lutheran South Academy in Houston. However, his next big move will involve deciding where to take his talents next for college. The five-star guard has official visits logged with five schools-Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Tennessee and Wichita State-and it's clear Alston's ready to move on from the recruitment phase.
What Houston five-star wants in next coach
"I'm done with visits," Alston said to Rivals Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw. "I'm just focusing on things like this and getting better...really, I'm just looking at the coach and what my relationship with him is like. If he trusts me and I trust him, then we can go a long way. So, that is definitely the biggest thing for me."
Tennessee, led by former Texas Longhorns head coach Rick Barnes, has a history of developing point guards for the next level, including Houston natives T.J. Ford, Daniel Gibson and D.J. Augustin. However, Louisville's Pat Kelsey most recently coached up Mikel Brown Jr., who was selected by the Brooklyn Nets with the No. 6 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
"Mikel (Brown) and I are completely different players. He's in the NBA, and I'm still in high school," Alston said to Shaw. "We play similarly, but we still have our own games and talents. Coach Kelsey definitely knows how to coach talented point guards."

While top prep stars can announce their commitments whenever they want, the official early signing period for the Class of 2027 runs from Nov. 11 through Nov. 18. Alston has said publicly that he'd like to make his commitment before his high school season begins.
Alston and the Eagles will begin their 2026-27 season on Nov. 13 at home versus Katy Seven Lakes. Second Baptist's first month of the schedule includes games against top schools from Arizona, Louisiana and Florida.
The two-time state champion point guard won the Guy V. Lewis Award as the top boys basketball player in the Greater Houston area back in April, averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game for the Second Baptist Eagles during the 2025-26 season.
