EXCLUSIVE: Spin Wars, a documentary about the billion-dollar boutique fitness revolution, has landed a buyer.
Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to the doc, which marks the directorial debut of Philip Byron, the former SpringHill Entertainment unscripted chief who is now head of original content at Tom Brady’s Shadow Lion.
The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and recently played at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
It tells the story of SoulCycle, Flywheel, Peloton and centers around Ruth Zukerman, co-founder, SoulCycle and Flywheel Sports, and Marion Roaman, co-founder, Peloton, often referred to as the godmothers of New York’s indoor cycling scene. It features the likes of Katie Couric, Heather McMahan, Mary Beth Barone, Jill Kargman, Anna Roisman and Brandon Kyle Goodman.
Greenwich will release the film in December.
Spin Wars comes from Feed the Animals and Fulwell Entertainment, was produced by Byron and Jillian A.G., and written by Byron and James Thayer. Executive producers include Thayer, Stevenson Waite, Naomi Wright, Jamal Henderson, Luke Anderson and Amanda Goldfine.
“Spin Wars has always been a passion project in every sense of the word. I started taking spin classes in New York City back in 2010 and had no idea about the juicy stories unfolding behind the scenes,” Byron said. “Whether you love or hate group fitness, this documentary has something for you. The world and the people in it are incredibly captivating and entertaining. It’s like The Social Network and Desperate Housewives got married, with Lady Gaga or Kesha officiating. I’m thrilled that Greenwich will bring the film to audiences so they can take the ride. Lots of gratitude to Feed the Animals and Fulwell for their partnership and support, and to all of our subjects for generously sharing their time and experiences with us.”
