KUALA LUMPUR: Zoom Communications is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities beyond meetings and workplace collaboration with the introduction of a new technology designed to turn business conversations into completed tasks.
The Unified Context Layer connects information from meetings, chats, documents and third-party applications, enabling AI agents to understand business decisions, coordinate activities and execute follow-up actions across different workflows.
The company said that the development marks a significant step in Zoom’s transformation from a communications platform into what it describes as a “system of action”, where AI moves beyond assisting employees to helping organisations execute tasks and improve productivity.
Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan said that understanding business context was essential for AI to deliver meaningful results.
“AI models are only as powerful as their understanding of your business, and that context makes all the difference,” he said in a statement.
“Fragmented product experiences isolate conversations, stall decisions, and drag businesses down. Today, with the Unified Context Layer, we’re laying the groundwork for a system of action designed to turn conversations into completed work.”
The technology addresses a common workplace challenge where information is scattered across different applications, requiring employees to reconstruct discussions, decisions and outstanding tasks before taking action.
For Malaysian businesses, particularly those managing teams and customer interactions across multiple platforms, the technology could help reduce administrative work, improve coordination and strengthen productivity.
By bringing together conversation histories, relevant documents, and near real-time business information, Zoom aims to give employees and AI agents a more complete understanding of what needs to be done.
Among the new capabilities are My Notes Workflows, which convert meeting summaries into follow-up activities across applications such as Zoom Chat and Salesforce, and ZoomMate Agent Teams, where specialised AI agents work together to complete tasks.
Zoom is also introducing enhanced meeting summaries, searchable transcripts linked to presentation slides and chat discussions, alongside AI-powered assistance for employees who miss meetings.
The company’s AI capabilities will extend beyond its own platform through application programming interfaces and Model Context Protocol servers, allowing businesses to integrate Zoom functions with AI environments including Claude, Codex, Microsoft Copilot and Gemini.
In customer experience, Zoom is introducing AI-powered customer profiles and transcript intelligence to help businesses maintain customer interaction histories across different communication channels.
The announcements also place greater emphasis on security, data governance and administrative controls as AI agents assume more responsibility for executing business activities.
