The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested in connection with sexual misconduct allegations involving female students, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has disclosed.
Mr Muntaka made the disclosure when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
He said the case had been transferred from the regional level to Police Headquarters for further investigation after he directed that it be handled at the national level.
According to the Minister, the matter came to his attention on September 7, when the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a report.
He subsequently requested that the investigation be escalated to Police Headquarters.
Mr Muntaka said investigators were pursuing DNA evidence as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out, about semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested, He’s going through the due process,” the Minister said.
He explained, however, that investigators would need a court order before collecting DNA samples, in accordance with the law.
The arrest marks a development in investigations into the allegations against the headmaster, which have drawn public concern and calls for accountability.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the arrest does not establish guilt.
