The couple, who go by the handle @chimama_and_champ on TikTok, have built a following by documenting their everyday life together.
In one clip filmed in a narrow, open-air courtyard with dirt floors, corrugated metal roofing, and plastic wash basins scattered around, Chimama is seen scrubbing and washing a pair of shoes by hand.
Champ, behind the camera, encouraged her with a cheerful "Good job" before offering to take over the task. She agreed, and the two swapped positions, with him finishing the cleaning while she filmed.
Once the shoes were clean, he walked her through where to leave them to dry, and the pair climbed onto the rooftop, where a sea of corrugated iron rooftops stretched out in every direction.
In a separate clip, Champ asked Chimama to prepare a meal, only to discover the gas cylinder had run out.
Rather than waiting around, the two headed out together, with Chimama carrying the empty cylinder to a refilling point. Champ then lugged the full cylinder back home so they could finally get cooking.
The videos have resonated with thousands of Kenyans, partly for their raw, unfiltered look at daily life in the area but mostly because of the unusual pairing: a white woman, believed to be from Norway based on comments, seemingly at home in one of Nairobi's most well-known informal settlements.
The comment section quickly filled with a mix of humour, admiration, and genuine concern.
@Sammie Bay:
"Then you find out that she is a spy."
@Jacy n Aiden:
"I love Chimama, but please move her to a better house."
@ANDERSON MERCY:
"Watu wa huyu msichana wamkujie."
@The Mutorokis:
"What do we call this kind of love from Norway to Kibera?"
@luther:
“Dedan Kimathi is smiling wherever he is."
The last comment, invoking the memory of the celebrated Mau Mau freedom fighter, reflected just how much the image of a white woman choosing to live and work in Kibera had stirred something deeper in viewers, drawing comparisons to a Kenya that once felt impossible.
