PORT DICKSON: The army will review its standard operating procedures (SOP) following the arrest of a serviceman found with a pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition and liquid suspected to be ketum at a camp in Kuala Lumpur.
Army chief Gen Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman said the review was part of the army's continuous efforts to improve existing procedures and address any gaps identified.
"The same applies to this case. We are constantly monitoring. Although an SOP is already in place, we are always looking at continuous improvement," he told reporters after the Passing Out Parade of Young Male Soldiers Series 206/26, involving 1,485 soldiers.
The event was also attended by Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman.
Azhan said the personnel, who is in his 30s, was undergoing a six-month transition training programme and was scheduled to complete his service in three months.
"The individual is undergoing transition training before completing his service and is currently detained at Sungai Buloh Prison for the trial process and further action," he said.
Meanwhile, Malek Razak said the armed forces had its own procedures and investigation protocols for handling cases involving its personnel to ensure that all actions were taken in accordance with established regulations.
